What Makes me Vulnerable to Disaster?
- People who live closer to a hazard (Hurricane prone Coast-line, Chemical plants, Dry forest lands)
- The elderly, children and those medically ill or disabled are the groups most vulnerable to the impacts of disasters. These groups have a more challenging time than the average population because of physical immobility and resources.
- Minority populations are also another group that is regularly impacted by these disasters because these populations usually live closer to areas of higher vulnerability like the coast, chemical plants, rivers, etc.
- Other factors include education limitations such as disaster training/courses and income.
- Lack of capacity and resources available to respond to and recover from disasters
